Soil Bio- technology is a terrestrial system for wastewater treatment which is based on the principle of trickling filter. In this system, combination of physical processes like sedimentation, infiltration and biochemical processes are carried out to remove the suspended solids, organic and inorganic contents of the wastewater.

Soil Bio-Technology (SBT) and Camus-SBT are innovative wastewater treatment processes that address the growing water scarcity crisis. By using natural materials and living organisms, SBT converts wastewater into reusable water for agriculture, gardening, and plantations. Developed by Prof. Shankar of IIT-B, SBT filters and treats wastewater through natural aeration and biological processes, eliminating pollutants such as BOD, COD, nitrates, and bacteria. This eco-friendly system also produces bio-energy products like vegetation, bio-fertilizers, and nutrient-rich soil, making it a sustainable alternative to conventional sewage treatment plants. With national and international recognition, SBT offers solutions for domestic sewage recycling, river cleaning, and industrial effluent treatment, supporting a zero liquid discharge approach.
